A Simply Beautiful Day

I love Fridays. As the week comes to an end, I know that the Sabbath is coming and I can rest for real! The weather has been extraordinarily perfect. Rarely do we get a day as beautiful as today this late in the year.

The kids and I have been reconsidering our approach to homeschooling. In October, we decided that the online curriculum that my son, James, was using was too easy. For tenth grade we felt it should take more study time! So, we began searching for a new plan. We finally decided on Math-U-See Geometry, Apologia Biology… along with the free curriculum at Ambleside Online. We just got the Math-U-See books in the mail and did his first lesson today. I must say I was very impressed! It came with a video that has the lessons on it - wonderful for me because I was never very good at math. The teacher on the video just explains the lesson. We did have to watch it twice to get the entire concept, but how nice to be able to hit rewind!

My daughters and I have been doing the Prairie Primer, and I decided for this year to also incorporate the booklists at Ambleside for their age level. Next year we will probably do mostly Ambleside and Math-U-See for the girls as well. We are also doing Notebooking and a lot of copywork. Currently, the girls are copying A Child’s Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. James is copying The Sanctified Life by Ellen White.

The girls current reading list include: Of Courage Undaunted by James Daughtery, Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, and next week we will be reading An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving by Louisa May Alcott together. And how could I forget the Little House in the Big Woods. We are almost finished with that one. James is reading a biography of George Washington and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.

We have also begun to keep nature journals, although I am still trying to figure all of this out and how to make it really work together!

I have sent the Winter issue of A Woman of Worth to press. I think you will love it! I wanted to share a sneak peak of the covers….
